Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. -- A 14-0 opening run by No. 13 Johns Hopkins led the visitors past Franklin & Marshall 77-60 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats (6-10, 3-6 CC) kept close the rest of the way, but were unable to chip away at the Blue Jays' (12-2, 8-1 CC) initial lead.
The 14-0 run took just 2:46 off the clock to stake Johns Hopkins to an early lead. F&M was able to claw back to within nine, after a Sam Davison triple made it 28-19 with 8:36 remaining in the first half. An 8-2 spurt by the visitors expanded the Blue Jays lead to 15, which ballooned to 21 at the half (46-25).
Johns Hopkins was able to grow its lead by the halfway mark of the final stanza, staking a 28 point lead at 66-38. The Diplomats did make a game of it late, as a late 8-0 run narrowed the deficit to 73-57 with 4:24 to play. Highlighting the run was a great individual effort by John Seidman, who carved up the Blue Jays defense for six of the eight points. Hopkins was able to right the ship at the end, taking the 77-60 final.
Johns Hopkins outshot F&M 46.4%-41.1%, as the Blue Jays held a wide advantage from beyond the arc hitting 13-25 from beyond compared to the Diplomats' 2-16. The Blue Jays outrebounded the Diplomats 42-26, and held a ten-point edge in 2nd chance points.
John Seidman led the team with 16 points, including a dozen in the second half. Omar Nichols followed with nine points, while Sam Davison and Travis Cumber both dumped seven points each in eight minutes off the bench.
F&M next hits the road to face Haverford on Saturday, Jan. 22 for a 3:00 p.m. in CC action.
