Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. - The No. 16 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (13-4, 9-1 CC) rolled to a 5-1 win over McDaniel (5-11, 1-9 CC) Saturday afternoon in the final regular season game for the Diplomats.
F&M found the back of the net first at the halfway point in the first quarter. On the offensive attack, Jessica Miller fired a shot that was blocked by the McDaniel defense. Sophie Carroll gathered the rebound and chipped a shot into the cage to put the Diplomats up 1-0. Carroll later tallied her team-best eighth goal of the season in the second quarter.
Like Carroll, Keira Boensch also had a multi-goal game as she scored on a feed from Jessica Miller in the second quarter. Boensch later scored F&M's fifth and final goal of the game as she batted a loose ball past the McDaniel goalkeeper and into the net.
Katie Roper also found the back of the cage on a goal in the third quarter for her first goal of the season. Roper fired a rocket of a shot into the top part of the cage after receiving a pass from Carolina Riley.
Franklin & Marshall outshot McDaniel 19-5 in the game, with 10 of the Diplomats' shots on goal. The Diplomats also drew 14 penalty corners in the victory.
No. 16 F&M holds the No. 2 seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs and earned a first-round bye. The Diplomats will return to Tylus Field Thursday to host the winner of Haverford and Bryn Mawr.
