CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (1-3, 0-1 CC) fell short in its comeback as Washington College (3-0, 1-0 CC) won 53-52 in the Diplomats first Centennial Conference game of the season.

Washington College's Joy Sanders made a tough layup with one second remaining in regulation to take a one-point lead and stun the Diplomats.

F&M trailed 42-34 at the start of the fourth quarter. From that point, the Diplomats outscored the Shorewomen 17-6 in a nine-minute span. Abby Meredith knocked down a three-pointer, followed by layups inside to Ally Trebelev and Jaclyn Feit to cut the Washington lead to 44-41. Washington College picked up two quick buckets, but Kennedy Wilburn and Natalie Kolb went 4-for-4 at the charity stripe to keep it close. Feit, Wilburn, and Lizzie Neville knocked down jumpers to give F&M a 51-48 lead with 57 seconds remaining in the game.

F&M erased an 18-point deficit in the game as Washington led 26-8 halfway through the second quarter. A big contribution to the Diplomats comeback was their ability to get to the free throw line as they made 17-of-18 (94.4 percent) from the charity stripe.

Wilburn led the Diplomats in scoring with 14 points, while also reeling in eight rebounds. Neville racked up 11 points while hitting a three-pointer in the game. Feit tallied 10 points with eight rebounds and four blocks in the contest.

F&M looks to get back in the win column Tuesday at Ursinus. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
