Men's Basketball Overtakes Dickinson, 64-59, Behind Strong Second Half

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team outscored visiting Dickinson 42-30 during the second half to complete a Centennial Conference comeback, winning by a 64-59 final on Tuesday night. The Diplomats (4-2, 1-1 CC) trailed by double digits after a tough start to the night, but shot over 46 percent during those critical final 20 minutes while limiting the Red Devils to just 26 percent from the field during that same time.

Josh Parra paced F&M's comeback with a double-double as he scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. His night helped the Diplomats hold a 32-20 advantage on points in the paint. John Seidman also sliced to the point on multiple occasions, finishing his evening with 16 points and eight boards. When his shot wasn't available, Seidman also got the rest of the Diplomats involved behind a team-leading five assists. Omar Nichols and Julian Thomas were two more strong scoring threats throughout the CC battle with nine and eight points, respectively.

The Dickinson defense hounded the hosts early before F&M was able to turn the defensive battle in its favor during the second half. An 11-0 run from the Red Devils created their largest lead of the night before they carried a 29-22 advantage into the locker room.

The second half was a completely different story as Parra scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds during the final 20 minutes. Seidman added nine more points during the period, with Nichols and Thomas doing all of their scoring during the second half. That increased offensive production helped the Diplomats to tie the game at 36-all with 14:10 to play in regulation. That tie score came as part of F&M's own 11-0 run that saw them eventually claim a 42-36 edge with just under 13 minutes to play.

Although the Red Devils would eventually halt that run, the momentum stayed with the hosts in front of a strong home crowd. The teams were tied at 45-all later in the half, but the Diplomats never trailed again as their lead grew to as many as eight points, 56-48, with 1:38 left in the contest. The Diplomats matched their largest lead of the night at 59-51 with 33 seconds to play before settling in for the 64-59 victory.

With the first Centennial Conference victory of the year under their belt, the Diplomats will now turn their attention to Saturday's 3 p.m. conference showdown at Haverford. That game will be part of a doubleheader as the F&M and Haverford women tip off the day at 1 p.m.
