Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team (5-2, 2-1 CC) displayed a strong second half effort to defeat Haverford (2-5, 1-2 CC), 83-70, in its Centennial Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 41-36 coming out of the halftime break, Omar Nichols knocked down three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to tie the game at 42-42. The teams traded buckets to make it a 58-58 game with 10:56 left in regulation. From that point, F&M began a 17-2 run. Josh Parra and Julian Thomas each made a layup to start the run. Nichols and Vakaris Grauslys continued knocking down shots from distance as they each hit a three-pointer during the stretch.
F&M faced an 11-point deficit early in the game as the Diplomats trailed 39-28 with just under two minutes left in the first half. Jaylen Green knocked down a three-pointer, followed by Nichols making a pair of free throws to cut Haverford's lead to 41-33. Mark Suchy beat the buzzer with a three-pointer in the corner to bring F&M within five points going into the halftime intermission.
Four of the five starters for the Diplomats finished with double-digit points as Nichols led the way with 23 points, while hitting five three-pointers in the win. Nichols also led the team with five assists and four steals in the game. John Seidman tallied 17 points, shooting 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the field. Grauslys and Parra racked up 12 points each in the contest.
As a team, F&M shot 51.8 percent (29-of-56) from the field and 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from beyond the arc in the victory.
Franklin & Marshall looks to extend its winning streak as it hosts Scranton Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Mayser Center.
