Women's Lacrosse Notches First Win at Misericordia, 16-4

Box Score

DALLAS, Pa. – The No. 7 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team won all four quarters on Sunday at Misericordia as the Diplomats picked up their first win of the 2022 season with a 16-4 victory on the road. F&M led 10-1 at the half and was up by double digits for the final 26-plus minutes of the contest.

Ally Marino led the Diplomats with five points (three goals, two assists), with Gillian Brennan (three goals, one assist) also contributing a hat trick to the attack. Lydia Cassilly (two goals, two assists), Sydney Lowe (two goals), and Marissa McGarrey (two goals) also tallied on multiple occasions throughout the victory.

The Cougars (1-1) scored the opening goal of the contest, but it was all F&M after that point as the Diplomats did not surrender another goal for nearly three full quarters. In addition to the aforementioned goal scorers, Maddy Birch, Kate McLam, and Madison Bray each tallied during the opening quarter to help put their side up 6-1. Marino scored a pair of goals just 26 seconds apart during the second quarter, with additional tallies from Brennan and Cassilly as Franklin & Marshall led 10-1 at the half.

The score reached 13-1 as the F&M's lockdown defensive effort continued up until there was 1:20 remaining in the third quarter. McGarrey tallied both of her goals within a two minute span that quarter, while Brennan also finished off her hat trick. Franklin & Marshall capped the scoring with a woman-down goal in the fourth quarter before Lowe tallied both of her goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation. In total, 11 different players contributed at least one goal or one assist to the attack on Sunday.

That constant attacking pressure resulted in a 39-9 advantage in shots for Franklin & Marshall. Emily Kitchin allowed just two goals during the first three quarters before Molly Donatelli and Alyssa Moran split duty over the final 15 minutes. Lane Lambeth and Erin Phillips joined Cassilly in helping to cause two turnovers each. Phillips, Cassilly, and Izzy Deubner led F&M with three ground balls each.

Women's lacrosse will be back in action this Wednesday, March 2 when the Diplomats travel to No. 8 Messiah for a 4 p.m. showdown. That will mark the team's only action of the week as Franklin & Marshall opens the month of March with three straight nationally-ranked matchups.
