Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Eight different players scored multiple goals as the sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-10 victory at home versus McDaniel during the team's Centennial Conference opener. The Diplomats led 8-2 after the first period and never looked back during the conference victory.
Marissa McGarrey led the scoring outburst as she scored four goals and added two more assists. Maddy Birch also had a big four-point game with three goals and one assist. Madison Bray, Lydia Cassilly, Gillian Brennan, Kate McLam, Sydney Lowe, and Ally Marino each had two goals during the win.
The Green Terror answered a pair of Franklin & Marshall goals during the opening minutes, but the Diplomats ran off 10 straight between the first and second quarter as they led 12-2 with just over five minutes remaining before halftime. F&M eventually went into the locker rooms leading 13-3 at the break.
Franklin & Marshall scored five more goals during the third quarter as the Diplomats' lead stayed in double digits for the vast majority of that period. Megan Bizub made it nine goal scorers overall on the day as she added her name to the score sheet with the team's 16th goal of the afternoon. The Green Terror cut their deficit to less than 10 early in the fourth quarter, but late goals from Birch and Brennan ended the game with F&M holding a 20-10 advantage.
The Diplomats racked up a 36-25 advantage in shots throughout the contest. Despite the multitude of shots, F&M was still very efficient on the attack as the team scored on 20 of its 24 shots on goal. Emily Kitchin made seven saves on the Green Terror's first 12 shots on goal before Alyssa Moran finished out the final 20 minutes in net with two more saves.
In addition to leading the offensive efforts, Birch and McGarrey each caused a pair of turnovers as the Green Terror were held to just 10-of-17 on their clear attempts. Kitchin led the team with three ground balls, with Birch and McGarrey each adding two more to the Diplomats' 15-11 advantage in that category.
Women's lacrosse will wrap up its non-conference schedule this coming Wednesday with a trip to defending national champion and current No. 1 Salisbury. That contest on Wednesday, March 30 is set for a 3 p.m. opening draw. The Diplomats return to Shadek Stadium next Saturday, April 2 versus Swarthmore.
