Box Score YORK, Pa. – The No. 5 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team blitzed No. 16 York (Pa.) by scoring the first seven goals on Tuesday night during an eventual 15-9 road victory. The Diplomats (3-1) were up 9-1 after 30 minutes of lock down defense for their second straight nationally-ranked win on the road.
Five different players scored multiple goals throughout the night, led by yet another hat trick from Lydia Cassilly. Maisie O'Shea, Gillian Brennan, Sydney Lowe, and Ally Marino also found the back of the cage multiple times. Marissa McGarrey added yet another multi-point outing with her one goal and pair of assists.
The Diplomats went up 5-0 during the opening period of play. It took F&M just a few minutes to find its rhythm on the attack before O'Shea struck first, tallying just over four minutes into the contest. After that initial goal, tallies from Maddy Birch, Lane Lambeth, Brennan, and Lowe all came in a span of under five minutes for the fast-paced attack.
Cassilly did her damage during the second quarter as she scored back-to-back goals to start that period before finalizing her hat trick shortly after the Spartans' first and only goal of the opening 30 minutes. McGarrey's goal late in the opening half made it a 9-1 score at the break.
York came out for the second half very strong and scored five straight in its bid to get back into the contest.The Spartans had the game down to a 9-6 battle, but the Diplomats answered with five consecutive goals of their own to push the lead back to eight goals, 14-6. O'Shea, Brennan, and Lowe scored their second goals of the night during that stretch before Marino's two goals came over the course of just 88 seconds. Abby Gravel capped the scoring for the Diplomats with her first career goal during the fourth quarter of the 15-9 win.
Franklin & Marshall finished the night with a 38-27 advantage in shots and was further aided by eight saves from Emily Kitchin. The Diplomats led 12-1 in shots after 15 minutes as a part of their early surge to start the contest. Eight different players caused a turnover for the F&M defense on Tuesday, highlighted by a pair of CTs from Madison Bray. Mary Pat McKenna led the defense with four ground balls.
When the nationally-ranked Diplomats return to action, they will do so in the Sunshine State as the team heads to Florida for spring break. While in Florida, F&M will play two games on Wednesday, March 16. The Diplomats start that day with a 10 a.m. showdown against No. 17 Denison before closing that date of competition at 7 p.m. versus Lynchburg.
