Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team moved to a perfect 2-0 in Centennial Conference play with its ninth straight victory overall on Saturday, a 16-4 win versus Swarthmore. The game was highlighted by Ally Marino scoring her 100th career goal just under five minutes into the contest as the Diplomats outscored the Garnet (6-2, 1-1 CC) during every quarter to continually build on their lead.
With her 100th career goal in just 44 career games, Marino was far from finished as she totaled six goals and one assist on the afternoon. Marino has now scored multiple goals in eight of F&M's 10 games, including 25 goals over the last six contests. Maisie O'Shea and Sydney Lowe also scored two goals on the afternoon as a total of nine Diplomats found the back of the cage.
Marino netted two of her goals during the opening quarter, with her milestone coming at the 10:28 mark on a feed from Gillian Brennan. Brennan later got into the scoring act herself as she took a feed from Megan Bizub to put her side up 4-0 early.
Carrying a 4-1 lead into the second period, F&M tallied five more to take a 9-2 lead into the half. Marino continued her torrid stretch with three more goals that all came within a span of just 6:24 of playing time. Lowe and Marissa McGarrey were also active on the attack with goals before the half.
O'Shea scored the opening goal of the game and did the same in the second half, registering her second just 1:17 into the third period before Marino scored her sixth goal just minutes later. Lydia Cassilly added her name to the scoresheet during the third quarter as F&M went up by double digits. The Diplomats added to that lead during the fourth, with Lowe, Lane Lambeth, Sarah Bowyer, and Sarah Delaney finding the back of the cage. Both Bowyer and Delaney tallied their second goals of the season as the Diplomats continued to add to their advantage.
F&M finished the Centennial Conference contest with a 42-18 advantage in shots. F&M also took advantage by scoring on four of its seven free-position shots that the Diplomats earned throughout the contest.
The defense certainly played its role in helping the attack keep the pressure on Swarthmore's goalie all afternoon. The Garnet committed 24 turnovers, 20 of which were created by an F&M defender. Caroline Findlay and Mary Pat McKenna each had three on the afternoon, with Izzy Deubner, Erin Phillips, McGarrey, and Emily Kitchin adding a pair of caused turnovers each. Those efforts helped to limit Swarthmore to just an 8-of-15 day on the clear. When the Garnet were able to get shots on frame, Kitchin stopped eight of those 12 attempts she faced.
Women's lacrosse will be back at home this coming Wednesday as the Diplomats host Bryn Mawr for a 4 p.m. opening draw inside Shadek Stadium.
