Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 2 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team found itself in unfamiliar territory on Saturday afternoon as the Diplomats trailed Washington College by a 4-1 score after 20 minutes. Nevertheless, F&M certainly flipped the switch from that point on as it outscored the Shorewomen 17-2 over the final 40 minutes of regulation during an 18-6 Centennial Conference win. That win also marked head coach Mike Faith's 150th career victory leading the Diplomats. Faith is the only coach in school history who has eclipsed 100 wins. His career record now stands at 150-35 at F&M, an .810 winning percentage.
Prior to Saturday's Centennial Conference matchup against the Shorewomen, who came into the contest receiving votes in the IWLCA national poll, F&M celebrated the eight seniors on this year's team for their contributions to the program over the last four years. The seniors honored with Bridget Kane, Emily Kitchin, Helen Mackay, Ally Marino, Marissa McGarrey, Lily Nolan, Maisie O'Shea, and Erin Phillips.
Lydia Cassilly led the Diplomats in scoring on Saturday with four goals. O'Shea celebrated Senior Day with four points (3g, 1a) of her own, while Kane, Gillian Brennan, Kate McLam, Marino, and Sarah Delaney all added multi-point afternoons to the team's win.
Franklin & Marshall's highest scoring period was the second as it poured in seven goals to turn a 4-1 deficit into an 8-4 halftime advantage. Cassilly and Brennan each scored twice during that period, with Lane Lambeth, O'Shea, and Delaney also getting into the scoring act.
That 7-0 run was stopped in the early minutes of the third quarter, but the Diplomats went on a sperate 8-0 run that spanned into the fourth quarter while putting the mercy rule in effect. O'Shea restarted that run with back-to-back goals as Marino (twice), Kane, Maddy Birch, and Kate McLam also scored during the run. Megan Bizub added the team's final goal of the afternoon with 1:53 remaining in regulation time.
After a relatively even first period, F&M outshot the Shorewomen by a 36-12 margin over the final three periods. Emily Kitchin was strong during her Senior Day, stopping six of the 12 shots she faced before Molly Donatelli wrapped up the final 4:09 in goal. F&M also had a 24-10 advantage in ground balls and caused 11 turnovers. Madison Bray, Delaney Liston, and Abby Gravel each had a pair of caused turnovers, while Marino joined both Liston and Gravel with a team-high three ground balls. Bray snagged a team-best three draw controls, matching the total of Bizub.
The Diplomats will now have one final home game during the regular season as they welcome Dickinson to Shadek Stadium this coming Wednesday, April 27 for a 7 p.m. CC clash under the lights. F&M wraps up its regular season next Saturday at No. 22 Haverford.
