Second-Ranked Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Bryn Mawr, 16-3

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Nine different players scored to lead the newly-minted No. 2 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team to a 16-3 victory over Bryn Mawr on Wednesday afternoon. With their latest victory, the Diplomats (10-1, 3-0 CC) have now won 10 straight contests.

Madison Bray recorded the first hat trick of her career, while Gillian Brennan matched that scoring output to tie her career high for the fifth time. Lane Lambeth, Sydney Lowe, and three-time Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week Ally Marino each tallied twice in the victory.

Brennan registered two of her three goals during the opening 15 minutes, including her first goal that came just 33 seconds into the contest. Marino and Brennan also rattled the back of the cage during the first period to put the Diplomats up 4-1 early. Franklin & Marshall's largest scoring output came during the second quarter as the Diplomats recorded six unanswered goals in that period. Brennan capped her hat trick with 2:04 remaining before the half. Lowe tallied both of her goals during that scoring outburst, with Lambeth, Marino, and Maisie O'Shea also helping to put F&M up by nine at the break.

Maddy Birch and Kate McLam got on the score sheet during the third period after Bray restarted the scoring just 1:02 into the second half. Bray went on to cap her first career hat trick just 55 seconds into the fourth period before Abby Gravel and Lambeth wrapped up the scoring for F&M. The Diplomats finished the contest with four goals off of free-position shots while racking up a 46-8 advantage in total shots.

F&M's goalies made four saves on the afternoon with each of those four seeing playing time. Reigning IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week Emily Kitchin picked up her first win after making two saves during the first 30 minutes. Alyssa Moran and Molly Donatelli each made a save before Emily Toft came on to close out the remaining minutes.

The Diplomats' defense held the visiting Owls to just 11-of-20 of their clear attempts. Bryn Mawr turned the ball over 26 times on Wednesday as 14 of those were a direct result of the hounding F&M defense. Eleven different Diplomats finished with a caused turnover, highlighted by Abbi Boehl's three CT performance. In addition to her goal scoring, Bray won three draw controls and was one of seven F&M players with at least three ground balls. Lambeth secured a team-leading four ground balls in the victory.

After playing four of its last five contests inside Shadek Stadium, women's lacrosse will head back out on the road this Saturday to take on Muhlenberg in the first of three straight road games for the Diplomats. Saturday's game in Allentown is scheduled for a 3 p.m. opening draw and will be part of a doubleheader with the men's team as that initial contest starts at 12 p.m. noon.
