Women's Soccer Battles Washington and Lee to 0-0 Tie

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Washington & Lee Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (1-0-2) put pressure on the F&M (3-0-1) defense early by firing two shots on net in the first 10 minutes of the match, but Emma Nolan saved both attempts.

F&M pressured the W&L defense early and often with its first opportunity coming in the 25th minute. Amanda Imhauser took a shot from distance that would've snuck under the crossbar if it wasn't for a jumping save by W&L goalkeeper Sydney Smith to spoil the chance. One minute later, Sierra Brophy found herself behind the opposing defense with just the goalkeeper to beat. Brophy's shot was denied with a diving effort by Smith to keep F&M off the scoreboard.

The Diplomats had a number of opportunities to score late in the first half, sending six shots in the final six minutes of the half. After drawing a corner kick with 30 seconds remaining before halftime, Sophie Koziol's shot was saved by Smith and cleared off the line by the General's defense. Mikaela Timmermans sent a shot that was blocked by a W&L defender. The ball was gathered by Koziol, who fired a final shot that went wide-right of the net as the first half expired.

Washington & Lee had a great opportunity to score in the 62nd minute with a shot past Nolan, however the Diplomat defense was there to head the ball away from danger.

F&M's last attack of the game occurred in the 84th minute when Dahlia Pepe's attempt was saved by the W&L goalkeeper.

F&M outshot W&L 11-9, with four Diplomats tallying a shot on goal in the match.

The last time F&M finished a game in a scoreless draw was against Washington College in the Centennial Conference opener last season.

The Diplomats return to Tylus Field to play Marywood Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
