Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall field hockey (3-3) team fell to ninth-ranked Kean (4-1) 1-0 Saturday in a non-conference game held at Tylus Field.
A penalty corner 1:30 into the third quarter allowed the Cougars to set up an attack that allowed midfielder Jorja Hibschman to fire a shot that found the back of the net to put Kean on top 1-0.
F&M had big defensive stands throughout the game, including two saves from Sydney Lippe within the first ten minutes of the match. Later in the game, F&M recorded a big defensive save by Annie Malatesta on the first shot coming back from halftime. A Kean forward got a clean shot on net that was swatted away by Malatesta on the goal line.
Just over a minute into the fourth quarter, Sophie Carroll found herself with a one-on-one opportunity in front of the goalkeeper. Carroll sent a shot that went through the legs of the Kean goalkeeper, but the shot rolled wide of the frame. The Diplomats were presented with scoring opportunities late in the game, including four penalty corners in the final ten minutes of regulation, but couldn't find the equalizer.
Lippe made five saves in net in the game. Carroll tallied five shots in the match. Carolina Riley and Amelia McCarthy each recorded one shot on goal.
F&M returns to action Saturday in a Centennial Conference game at home against Ursinus at noon.
