Field Hockey Tripped up at No. 8 Messiah

Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall field hockey team suffered its first loss of the 2022 season at No. 8 Messiah on Wednesday evening. The Falcons scored the first four goals of the contest before a late goal from Keira Boensch set the score at a 4-1 final.

The goal scored by Boensch was her second in as many games against nationally-ranked opponents as she previously scored the second goal of F&M's 2-0 victory at home against then-No. 16 Christopher Newport over the weekend. Carolina Riley registered the assist on the goal, giving her two helpers and a total of four points on the year after she tallied a goal and an assist during the season opener.

Both teams were incredibly efficient at putting their chances on target as 10 of Messiah's 11 shots were on cage, while all eight of F&M's shot attempts went on goal throughout the 60 minutes. Messiah scored once in each quarter during the first half and eventually went up 4-0 with a pair of third period goals that came just 55 seconds apart from each other.

Jorja Pastore got the start as she came into the game having not allowed a goal during her first 90 minutes of action this season. That stretch reached the century mark before the Falcons found the back of the cage late in the first. She made five of her six saves during an incredibly busy first 15 minutes. Sydney Kuehn entered the game to finish out the final 15 minutes and went untested during her time on the field.

Looking to bounce right back, the field hockey team will be back on the road this Saturday at Montclair State. That non-conference matchup is set for a 5 p.m. start in New Jersey.
