Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team led for nearly 37 minutes on Tuesday evening, but it was the visiting Shoremen who had the lead when it mattered most as Washington College completed a 62-61 comeback inside the Mayser Center. The Diplomats took their last lead of the game with 23 seconds to play as John Seidman the hosts a 61-60 edge with his trip to the free throw line, but Kedrick Frink drew the foul at the other end with two seconds to play and converted both of his attempts to finish with a game-high 28 points while giving his team the victory.
Those two seconds marked the only time that the Shoremen led during the second half as the Diplomats put three players in double figures. Seidman led the scoring efforts with 15 points, while Vakaris Grauslys and Omar Nichols finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.
WAC came out of the gates hot from beyond the arc, but a pair of free throws from Nichols gave F&M the lead with 16:55 to play in the opening half and Diplomats would trail for just a single possession the rest of the first half first half before Sebastien Charles hit a layup to give his side a 12-11 advantage. The Franklin & Marshall lead hovered right around six points for most of the first half before the Diplomats went on a 10-0 run late in the period. Jaylen Green jump-started that run with a layup and three-pointer before Mark Suchy's points in the paint were followed by another trey from Nichols. The F&M lead reached a game-high 15 points, 37-22, before the Shoremen trimmed that deficit down to 13 at the charity stripe just before the break.
After F&M was leading 37-24 following 20 minutes of action, the Shoremen outscored the Diplomats 38-24 during the final 20 minutes. The hosts were holding a double-digit lead at 52-42 over midway through the second half before the visitors scored 13 of the next 17 points to trim the advantage down to a single point, 56-55, with 4:37 remaining in regulation time.
Despite now being locked in a tight battle, the Diplomats never surrendered that lead until there were just 45 seconds to play as Washington College's Sam Corrano connected from beyond the arc to help his side shot 50 percent (3-of-6) from distance during the second half. On the ensuing possession, Seidman added his team-leading 15th point of the night at the line, but it was ultimately the Shoremen who provided the final points during their victory.
The game was certainly a tale of two halves in shooting numbers, with F&M finishing the Centennial Conference contest with four more points from the field. Nevertheless, the Shoremen shot 16-of-20 from the line to overcome the F&M advantage.
With three conference games this week, Franklin & Marshall will have a chance to bounce back quickly as the Diplomats return to action Thursday at Gettysburg. Tip-off of that doubleheader with the women's team playing first is slated for an 8 p.m. start on the men's side before F&M returns home Saturday versus McDaniel.
