Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team (10-9, 5-7 CC) picked up a Centennial Conference victory as it eased past Washington College (2-16, 1-11 CC), 92-76, Saturday afternoon. As a team, the Diplomats shot 54.5 percent from the field and had four of its five starters finish with double-digit scoring figures in the win.
Trailing 23-13 with 10 minutes left in the in the first half, F&M began a 17-3 run to take control of the lead before halftime. The run began with Omar Nichols and Kevin Nowoswiat knocking down three-pointers on consecutive possessions to cut the deficit to four. After Nowoswiat made a layup with 8:50 on the clock, John Seidman chipped in a free throw to get the Diplomats within a point. Josh Parra grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in for two to give F&M a 24-23 advantage with 7:44 left in the half. Leading 27-26, the Diplomats' run was capped with a three-pointer from Vakaris Grauslys with 4:52 until halftime.
Grauslys scored the final four points in the half to give F&M a 41-34 lead heading into the intermission.
Washington College clawed back to cut F&M's lead to 50-49 with 13:48 remaining in the game, but the one-point margin was the closest the Shoremen came to tying the contest as the Diplomats began a 14-2 run. Jaylen Green started the run by scoring the first five points, followed by a layup from Parra to give F&M a 57-49 lead with 11:24 left in the game.
After the Shoremen scored two on a jumper, Sebastien Charles drilled a three-pointer on the following possession. Green knocked down a pair of free throws, followed by a layup from Seidman to extend the Diplomats' lead to 64-51 with 9:24 left in regulation.
Franklin & Marshall shot 57.7 percent from the field and 86.4 percent from the charity stripe in the second half to close out the game.
Seidman tallied a double-double as he racked up 15 points and 15 rebounds in the contest. Grauslys led the team in scoring with 18 points, while dishing out seven assists. Parra recorded 16 points, shooting 70 percent from the field. Nichols scored 13 points and knocked down three three-pointers in the victory.
F&M returns to the Mayser Center to host Gettysburg Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
