LANCASTER, Pa. - After its first conference loss of the season, the Franklin & Marshall Volleyball team bounced back with a sweep of Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon.
Following a 2-0 start for the Mules in the first game, the Diplomats would not trail for the remainder of the frame, later jumping in front 11-4. The two teams then traded points for several rallies, with F&M getting out to eight-point leads on two occasions. Up 22-16, the Diplomats closed out the set by winning three straight points.
The Mules began the second stanza with a 6-3 edge, but F&M quickly tied it at 6-6. Muhlenberg continued to stay in front, up 11-7, before a 6-1 run for the Diplomats led to the first F&M lead of the set. Tied 13-13, the Diplomats pulled away with eight consecutive points for a 21-13 advantage.
Lauren Arnold ended the frame on a kill as F&M went up 2-0 in sets.
The third game saw five lead changes and six ties, with the Mules leading by as much seven at 16-9. The Diplomats managed to rally from the deficit, however, winning six of seven points to make the score 17-15. A pair of Muhlenberg points gave the Mules breathing room at 19-15, but F&M responded with a 4-1 run to get to within one. Moments later, trailing 21-19, the Diplomats took the lead for good with four straight points. Though the Mules staved off one match point,
Sydney Levins ended the contest immediately after with a kill.
Gianna Mangiamele led the team with nine kills while
Liah Perez provided 23 assists. Defensively,
Meredith Mangum tallied a team-best 10 digs.
F&M will now travel to Collegeville, Pa. to take on Ursinus on Wednesday, October 18 at 7 p.m.
