Women's Soccer Battles No. 8 Johns Hopkins

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team gave No. 8 Johns Hopkins all it could handle on Tylus Field Saturday afternoon before falling by a 1-0 score. The Diplomats (8-2-3, 5-2-1 CC) outshot the visiting Blue Jays (11-1-2, 7-0-1 CC) by a 14-10 margin, but a goal from Johns Hopkins' Lilah Isenberg during the 15th minute proved to be the only time either side could crack its opponent's defense.

Both sides put six shots on goal during the Centennial Conference match, with the Diplomats holding a 7-3 advantage in total shots after 45 minutes. Despite the Diplomats having the shots advantage, including the first two shots on goal of the contest, it was the Blue Jays that opened the scoring just 14:29 into the contest.

Franklin & Marshall appeared ready to equalize early in the second half after the Diplomats earned a corner kick. However, the ensuing shot from Mikaela Timmermans rang off the crossbar to deny her bid at the game-tying goal. That chance was one of two corners that F&M earned, compared to four for the visitors.

Johns Hopkins' goalie Eva Breiland registered six saves during the win, while F&M's Lucille Fleming made five stops. Alison Francis led the Diplomats with a team-high five shots, putting three of those attempts on target. Lillian Williams was another constant threat for the Diplomats as she fired off four shots throughout the contest.

Currently sitting in third place in the Centennial Conference standings, the Diplomats will have just one non-conference match this coming week as they travel to Penn State Berks on Tuesday, October 17 for a 6 p.m. start. The Diplomats wrap up regular season play the following week with Centennial Conference matchups against Gettysburg and Washington College.
