READING, Pa. – The No. 25 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (8-1-2, 2-0-2 CC) cruised to a 4-0 win on the road at Alvernia (4-5, 1-0 MAC) in Monday evening's non-conference contest. The Diplomats were dominant in the offensive zone throughout the night, peppering the Golden Wolves' net with 21 total shots and 12 attempts on target.
The Diplomats jumped out to an early lead in the 11th minute as
Owen Sobel corralled the loose ball in the Alvernia box. Sobel fired his shot past the hosts' goalkeeper and into the net for his first-career goal.
F&M added onto its lead in the 35th minute as
Matias Arbelaez connected with
Koa Kaliebe to put the Diplomats up 2-0 in the match. Kaliebe's offensive presence continued into the second half as the junior caused a turnover deep inside Alvernia's zone during the 50th minute. Kaliebe swiped the ball from the Golden Wolves' defender, weaved past the goalkeeper, and put his shot into the wide-open net for his eighth goal of the fall.
The Franklin & Marshall scoring was capped in the 78th minute as a crossing pass entered the Alvernia box and was centered from a header by
Jack Nury.
Miguel Rosa received the pass and tucked his shot inside the right post to give the Diplomats a 4-0 lead. The score was Rosa's first goal of his career and Nury's first assist of the season.
Oscar Horwitz led the Diplomats with three shots on goal, followed by Kaliebe,
Nathan Schlessinger, and Sobel tallying two each. F&M's offensive pressure also helped generate 14 corner kicks in the win.
Goalkeeper
Nolan Booth made three saves in net without allowing a goal to record his second shutout of the season and the third of his career. The victory marked the third shutout win for the Diplomats this season.
No. 25 Franklin & Marshall returns to Tylus Field on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. to host Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) action.
