CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The No. 4 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (13-2-2, 6-1-2 CC) fell, 2-1, at Washington College (11-1-5, 7-1-1 CC) Saturday evening in the Diplomats' final regular season game. Despite both teams matching with eight shots total in the contest, the Shoremen picked up goals in 34th and 57th minute of the match to jump out to a 2-0 advantage.
The Diplomats cut the deficit in half during the 59th minute as an attack was setup by
Isaac Mintz intercepting a pass in F&M territory and quickly flipping the field.
Wes Wise took the ball to the end line and sent a crossing pass into the middle of the box, that was deflected into the net by a WAC defender for an own goal.
F&M had one last shot of nabbing the equalizer in the final minute as a foul gave the Diplomats a free kick opportunity at midfield.
Connor Anderko sent the kick into the middle of the box and connected with
Owen Sobel. However, Sobel's header floated just over the crossbar to extinguish the threat.
Koa Kaliebe led the Diplomats with three shots, followed by
Philip Monos recording two shot attempts in the game.
The loss gives the Diplomats the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the Centennial Conference tournament. F&M will host the higher-seeded quarterfinal winner on Friday with a time to be determined.
