LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 4-seeded Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (11-2-4, 6-2-2 CC) took down No. 5-seeded Gettysburg (8-7-2, 6-3-1 CC), 2-0, in the first round of the Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Tylus Field. The victory advances the Diplomats to the semifinals for the first time since the 2021 season.
F&M fired a total of 12 shots in the first half with the final attempt finding the back of the net off the foot of
Zoe Warne in the 40th minute to give the Diplomats the lead. With the ball loose in front of the Gettysburg net, Warne rocketed a shot into the left side of the cage for her third goal of the fall and second game-winning tally of the season.
The Diplomats' offensive attack continued to apply heavy pressure in the second half as
Elizabeth Jones had a shot knocked away at the goal line by the Gettysburg defense in the 59th minute. F&M had another close chance to cash in on an insurance goal in the 81st minute on a strike from
Dahlia Pepe, but the attempt rang off the crossbar and bounced away from danger.
In the 86th minute, the duo of
Mikaela Timmermans and
Alison Francis beat the Gettysburg defense with a give and go that allowed Timmermans to fire an open shot for the Diplomats' second goal of the match. The score is Timmermans' sixth goal of the season, while Francis earned her sixth assist of the year on the play.
F&M outshot Gettysburg, 26-4, with Jones posting a game-high six shots in the match.
Lucille Fleming saved both of the shots she faced to claim her eighth shutout of the season.
No. 4-seed Franklin & Marshall now travels to play No. 1-seed Swarthmore in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
