LANCASTER, Pa. - Riding a five-match winning streak coming into Wednesday night, the Franklin & Marshall volleyball team swept McDaniel for its sixth straight win. With 15 digs on the night,
Meredith Mangum became the 22nd player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs.
After the Diplomats jumped out to a 5-2 advantage in the opening game, the Green Terror responded with five straight points to take a 7-5 edge. However, following a 7-0 F&M run, the Diplomats stayed in front for the rest of the way. Though McDaniel evened the scored at 14-14, four consecutive points by F&M gave the Diplomats breathing room. Later on, a kill by
Lauren Arnold sealed a 25-20 set win for F&M.Â
The two teams went back-and-forth to start the second frame, but with the Diplomats ahead 8-7, F&M won five straight rallies to once again take the lead for good. After the Green Terror got to within two at 16-14, a 4-0 run by the Diplomats put F&M ahead by six.
Liah Perez ended the set with an ace as the Diplomats won their second game of the match.Â
McDaniel failed to get ahead at any point in the third stanza, as F&M opened up an 11-4 advantage to start the game. Later leading 13-8, a 4-0 Diplomats run further increased the lead to nine. F&M ended the set by winning four of the final five rallies, including a match clinching kill by
Sydney Levins.Â
Levins was the team leader in kills on the night with eight, while
Hannah McCarthy recorded 14 assists.Â
The Diplomats will close out the regular season with a tri-match against No. 12 Johns Hopkins and Shenandoah on Saturday, November 4 in Baltimore, Md. A win over the Blue Jays would give F&M the number one seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament, which is slated to begin on Wednesday, November 8.Â
