Strong Second Half Lifts Men's Basketball Past Elizabethtown

LANCASTER, Pa. - Outscoring Elizabethtown 44-19 in the second half, the Franklin & Marshall Men's Basketball team downed the Blue Jays, 79-50 on Wednesday night.

The two teams traded buckets throughout the opening 10 minutes of the game, with the lead changing hands three times. Despite shooting 5-of-13 from the floor and turning the ball over seven times in that span, the Diplomats trailed by just four at 16-12. F&M then hit three shots from beyond the arc on of the following four possessions to cap off an 11-0 run and take a 21-16 edge. Leading 21-18 just moments later, Nicholas Omar knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to put the Diplomats up 27-21. Though F&M made just one more field goal in the final five minutes of the half, the Diplomats remained on top, 35-31 going into the locker room after hitting 6-of-8 free throws to close out the period.

Within the first five minutes of the second half, F&M pushed the lead to 13 following a 10-1 run. Defensively, the Diplomats limited Elizabethtown to just 1-of-16 shooting from the field in the first nine minutes of the frame, as they grew their advantage to 54-35 with just under 11 minutes left to play. Three possessions later, a Sebastien Charles three-pointer gave F&M its first 20-point lead of the night. Ending the game by allowing just one made bucket by the Blue Jays in the last seven minutes, the Diplomats defeated Elizabethtown, 79-50.

F&M was led by Omar Nicholas, who finished with a team-high 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from distance. Sebastien Charles recorded nine rebounds while John Seidman posted eight assists. As a team, the Diplomats shot over 53% from the field and 48% from the three-point line.

Up next, F&M will travel across town to take on Lancaster Bible on Saturday, October 18 at 3 p.m.
