SWARTHMORE, Pa. - A Swarthmore goal in the final minutes of regulation lifted the Garnet past the Franklin & Marshall Field Hockey team in the Centennial Conference tournament semifinals on Thursday night.
Just over eight minutes into the game, a foul against Swarthmore inside of the arc led to a penalty stroke attempt for the Diplomats, which
Annie Malatesta buried to put F&M up, 1-0.
In the second quarter, however, Katherine Kohn gathered a loose ball in front of the cage and put it between the posts to even the score.Â
Kohn struck once again with the clock winding down in the third frame, as the Garnet jumped in front, 2-1.
The Diplomats were then awarded a penalty corner in the 49th minute, which they converted on after
Caitlin Hoover scored on a
Carolina Riley assist.
With less than four minutes remaining in regulation, the Garnet inserted a penalty corner after which Avery Bloom found the back of the cage for the game winner.
Meghan Dole made eight saves on the night, while Hoover's goal gave the first-year four in two tournament contests.Â
F&M will now turn its attention to an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament, with the selection show on Sunday, November 5 at 10:30 p.m.
