GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (2-2, 0-2 CC) fell, 59-44, on the road against Gettysburg (3-2, 1-1 CC) in Tuesday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) matchup.
A slow start to the game put the Diplomats at a disadvantage as the Bullets jumped out a 12-0 lead just over five minutes into the contest. F&M minimized the damage with a jumper from
Jaclyn Feit and a three-pointer from
Mackenzie Ward to cut the Gettysburg lead to 15-6 after the first quarter.
The teams traded baskets to start the second frame as
Hailey Cabanas knocked down a triple in response to three points from the Bullets. F&M cut the deficit to seven as
Lauren Rusas converted a layup and
Quinn Galligan knocked down a jumper with 1:40 remaining in the half. Gettysburg chipped-in three points and
Ally Trebelev knocked down a free throw to end the first half with the score 27-18, in favor of Gettysburg.
After a layup from
Kayla McCrea made the score 31-22 with 7:55 left in the third quarter, Gettysburg began an 11-4 run to go up 42-26 with four minutes remaining in the frame. A pull-up jumper from
Lizzie Neville stopped the run, while three two-point buckets from
Gia Sioutis put the Diplomats within 12 points of the Bullets going into the final quarter.
Gettysburg outscored the Diplomats, 13-10, in the fourth quarter to hold onto the victory – handing F&M its second loss of the season.
Sioutis led F&M with eight points, while Feit recorded a team-leading eight rebounds in the contest. Defensively, five different Diplomats registered a steal in the game.
Franklin & Marshall now travels to Chestertown, Maryland to take on Washington College Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
