BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 4 seed Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (12-3-4, 6-2-2 CC) fought hard to the end, but fell short against No. 2 seed Johns Hopkins, 2-1, in F&M's second-ever Centennial Conference (CC) Championship appearance Sunday afternoon. A goal in the 89th minute from JHU's Megha Salvi was the deciding factor in the match – giving the Blue Jays the late advantage.
Johns Hopkins found the back of the net on the first shot of the game during the eighth minute of the contest to jump out to an early 1-0 lead.
In the 22nd minute,
Sophie Koziol intercepted a pass deep in the Diplomats' offensive area. Koziol found
Lillian Williams, who weaved around her defender to fire a shot off the right post and into the net - tying the game up at 1-1. Williams now holds the team-lead in goals with her eighth score of the fall.
Franklin & Marshall registered seven total shots with four on goal in the game.
Bri Skidmore led the Diplomats with three shots, followed by Williams tallying two in the match.
Lucille Fleming gave it all she had as the first-year goalkeeper made five saves in net.
Franklin & Marshall now turns its attention to the NCAA Selection Show, airing Monday at 1:30 p.m., for a potential at-large bid.
