LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (3-3, 1-3 CC) claimed its first Centennial Conference (CC) victory of the season Saturday afternoon at the Mayser Center as the Diplomats overpowered Bryn Mawr (2-6, 0-4 CC), 50-32, in the contest.
Quinn Galligan set the tone defensively as she swiped eight of F&M's 19 steals in the game, which is one-shy of tying the program single-game steals record.
The Diplomats did not allow Bryn Mawr to hold a lead once in this game as F&M outscored the Owls in all four quarters.
Tied 11-all in the first minute of the second quarter, the Diplomats took over with a 9-0 run that began with a layup from Galligan.
Jaclyn Feit continued the run by scoring the next six points of the game until
Gia Sioutis knocked down a free throw to improve F&M's lead to 20-11. After Bryn Mawr chipped-in a two-point basket of their own,
Mackenzie Ward and
Lauren Rusas connected on back-to-back jumpers to send the Diplomats into the halftime intermission with a 24-15 lead.
Bryn Mawr narrowed the deficit to four during the first four minutes of the third quarter. From that point, the Diplomats went on to score 11 unanswered points to jump out to a 37-22 lead. F&M's advantage only grew for the rest of the game as a
Lian Aviles went two-for two at the free throw line with just under a minute left in regulation to give F&M a 20-point advantage – it's largest lead of the contest.
Feit led the team with 15 points and nine rebounds, while also blocking three shots. Galligan recorded 10 points with five rebounds and three assists in the win.
Lizzie Neville also tallied six points with six assists in the game.
F&M forced Bryn Mawr to turn the ball over 31 times in the game, which resulted in 21 points off turnovers. The Diplomats also outrebound Bryn Mawr, 43-35, with F&M corralling 17 offensive boards in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall now turns its attention to Johns Hopkins, a team receiving votes in the national poll, as the Diplomats host the Blue Jays Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Mayser Center.
