Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team (10-11, 5-9 CC) was defeated in its road Centennial Conference game to No. 10 Swarthmore (19-2, 13-1 CC), 76-62, Saturday afternoon. Despite leading 40-34 at halftime, the Diplomats were outscored, 42-22, in the final 20 minutes to fall to the Garnet.
Trailing 32-23 with 2:47 remaining in the first half, Kevin Nowoswiat splashed a three-pointer to kickstart a 17-2 run to close the half. Jaylen Green followed Nowoswiat's three-pointer with a triple of his own on the following possession to cut the deficit to three. After a Swarthmore timeout, Nowoswiat continued the run by hitting another three-pointer and adding another point at the free throw line to give the Diplomats a 33-32 lead.
Swarthmore took the lead on a layup, but it was only for a brief period of time as Omar Nichols went 2-for-2 at the free throw line with 1:14 remaining until halftime. F&M added five points on a layup from Travis Cumber and a three-pointer from Nichols to take a 40-34 lead into the intermission.
The Garnet chipped away at the F&M lead to take a 41-40 advantage just under two minutes into the second half. Mark Suchy made a layup at the 17:42 mark, but Swarthmore responded with two points of their own on the other. John Seidman made a free throw to cut Swarthmore's edge to 45-43 with 16:17 remaining in regulation, but the Garnet responded by scoring seven unanswered points in the next four minutes to cushion its lead.
Franklin & Marshall shot 35.7 percent (20-for-56) from the field and 40 percent (10-for-25) from beyond the arc in the contest.
Green and Nichols led F&M in scoring with 14 points each. Green connected on four three-pointers, while Nichols hit three from beyond the arc in the game. Nowoswiat tallied ten points with three three-pointers coming off the bench. Seidman finished with a team-leading 10 rebounds in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall faces a tough matchup Tuesday 8:00 p.m. as it hosts No. 9 Johns Hopkins inside the Mayser Center.
