Women's Lacrosse Dominates Swarthmore, 18-5

Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Lydia Cassilly, Maddy Birch, Lauren Pittman, and Lane Lambeth all registered hat tricks as the No. 9 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-5 Centennial Conference victory at Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats scored nine consecutive goals during the first half and never trailed by less than 10 after their opening goal of the second half.

In addition to those four players combining for 13 of F&M's 18 on the day, Sydney Lowe also tallied twice while Madison Bray added three assists. Senior defender Mary Pat McKenna and first-year Liv Cooper also registered the first goals of their collegiate careers, with Abby Gravel also tallying during the win.

Swarthmore scored the first goal of Saturday's Centennial Conference matchup, but that lead would not last for long against the nationally-ranked Diplomats. The Diplomats got on the board with Pittman's first goal coming with 6:49 remaining in the opening period and that would start a surge of nine straight goals in just  9:35 of playing time that put the visitors up 9-1. The Garnet broke that streak but the Diplomats added three more later in the period to take a 12-3 lead into the half.

Franklin & Marshall also scored the first three goals of the second half to go up 15-3 and would just build on that lead throughout regulation. The Diplomats outscored the Garnet during each of the four quarters during the eventual 18-5 victory.

Even with a 31-17 advantage in shots, the Franklin & Marshall goalies still finished with more saves than their Swarthmore counterparts. Alyssa Moran got the start and made seven saves during her nearly 40 minutes in goal before Molly Donatelli and Sara DiGiovanni helped the Diplomats record 10 total saves throughout the Centennial Conference contest.

The Diplomats were also very strong on the restarts as they held a 17-9 advantage in draw controls. In addition to her three helpers, Bray was also instrumental in setting up the attack with seven of those draw controls, with Julia Carbon adding four more. F&M maintained a 17-10 advantage in ground balls as 14 different players recorded at least one GB.

After winning both of its first two matchups during strong showings this week, the Diplomats will conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule tomorrow at home against No. 6 Salisbury. That top 10 national matchup will get underway at 1 p.m. inside Shadek Stadium.
