Box Score 2 HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall softball team (7-20, 2-9 CC) earned a split in its Centennial Conference doubleheader at Haverford (17-18-1, 5-8-1 CC) Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats dropped game one, 11-2, before taking the second game, 6-2.
Game 1: Haverford 11, F&M 2 (5 Innings)
Haverford's offense was relentless in game one as the Fords' scored seven runs in the first three innings. The hosts scored 11 runs total and only allowed two runs en route to a run-rule victory.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the third, F&M got its first run of the day on an RBI-double into center field from Kat Gunther to score Jaden Spigner.
Haverford answered with four more runs in the bottom of the third frame. F&M earned another run in the top of the fourth as Claire Sullivan scored on a groundout.
Gunther recorded two doubles for F&M's only two hits of the contest.
Aliza Sheflin (2-10) was hit with the loss – tossing two strikeouts and allowing five earned runs in two innings in the circle.
Game 2: F&M 6, Haverford 2
Franklin & Marshall led throughout the entirety of game two – creating separation with a three-run seventh to defeat Haverford.
Hillary Murse and Alexa Klepper both reached base to lead off the top of the second. A double into center field by Megan Wiarda scored both runners to give F&M an early 2-0 lead.
The Diplomats added onto its lead in the top of the fourth as Kate Clement scored on a sacrifice fly from Wiarda. Wiarda's three RBI is a season-high for the first-year catcher.
In the top of the seventh, F&M loaded the bases for Maddy Yeingst to reach base on a fielder's choice that scored Sami LaRosa. With the bases still loaded, Haverford tossed two wild pitches to score two more runs – extending the Diplomats' advantage to 6-0
Haverford plated two runs in the bottom of the frame, but the deficit was too great to overcome as the Fords' left two runners stranded to end the game.
Ainsley McClure (5-6) claimed her fifth win of the spring as she struck out two and allowed two earned runs in a complete game showing.
Franklin & Marshall returns to Baker Campus Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. to host Gettysburg for a CC doubleheader.
