Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team once again showed off its national prowess as the No. 10 Diplomats (9-3, 4-0 CC) defeated Ursinus by a 23-4 score inside Shadek Stadium. F&M was up by double digits early in the second quarter and never looked back as it remained undefeated in Centennial Conference play.
Fourteeen different Diplomats scored throughout the victory while 17 players registered at least one point. That group was highlighted by a career day from Gillian Brennan as she scored three goals and added four assists to reach the 100-point plateau for her career. Abby Gravel led the scoring efforts with four goals, while Lane Lambeth (three goals), Lydia Cassilly (two goals), and Sarah Delaney (two goals, one assist) all rattled the back of the cage multiple times.
First-years Julia Carbon and Mia Geignetter both registered the first goals of their careers in front of the home crowd, with Maddy Birch, Liv Cooper, Adde Hollander, Kate McLam, Sydney Lowe, and Megan Bizub all adding to the scoring onslaught. The Franklin & Marshall goalies combined to stop eight of Ursinus' 12 shots on goal, with Alyssa Moran (five saves) and Molly Donatelli (three saves) making multiple stops before Sara DiGiovanni wrapped up the final minutes before the last buzzer.
Both sides scored during the first four minutes of Saturday's Centennial Conference game, but the Diplomats had another huge run in them to widen the gap. Following Ursinus' first goal of the day, the Diplomats ran off 12 consecutive goals, going up by double digits with 12:18 to play in the second quarter. F&M was up 14-2 as the teams headed the locker rooms and the Diplomats allowed just two more third quarter goals the rest of the way before closing the win behind a 5-0 fourth quarter advantage.
Franklin & Marshall was certainly precise in its shooting as the Diplomats scored on 23 of its 29 shots on goal. The Diplomats also owned an 18-6 advantage in ground balls, with Geignetter's three GBs leading the way in addition to her pair of caused turnovers. Madison Bray collected a team-high five draw controls in addition to a pair of assists that she dished out in the attacking end of the field.
Women's lacrosse will now have a full week of preparation before the Diplomats head out on the road next Saturday for a 1 p.m. opening draw at Washington College.
