SCRANTON, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (3-0-1), a team receiving votes in the national polls, rolled to a 6-0 win over Marywood (1-3) behind
Alison Francis' first-career hat trick Wednesday evening. Francis' three-goal performance is the first since
Sierra Brophy recorded hat tricks against both Rutgers-Newark and Haverford last season.
F&M broke into the scoring column early as Francis finished off a perfect pass from
Mikaela Timmermans by tucking it into the right side of the net. Eight minutes later, Francis scored her second goal of the match as both Kate Boujokos and Timmermans recorded assists on the play.
The Diplomats continued to apply pressure early as
Colleen Ferrarese denied Marywood from clearing the ball out of defensive area. Ferrarese corralled the loose ball and rocketed a shot past the Pacers' goalkeeper for her first-career goal.
With under a minute left in the first half, Franklin & Marshall continued to attack the offensive zone as
Dahlia Pepe caused a turnover by the Marywood defense. Pepe connected with
Zoe Warne who raced past the Pacer defense and beat the keeper to give F&M a 4-0 advantage going into the halftime break.
Francis completed the hat trick in the 58th minute as she fired a shot from just outside the box that snuck inside the left post and into the net. The senior continued to display her dominance against the Pacers as now seven of her 15-career goals have come against Marywood.
Just one minute later, Timmermans fired a shot from distance that was batted away from the Marywood goalkeeper.
Bri Skidmore crashed the net to clean up the rebound for her third goal in as many games – capping the F&M scoring in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall recorded 27 shots with 17 on net in the victory. Timmermans racked up three assists with Boujoukos and Pepe each tallying one.
Lucille Fleming picked up her second shutout of the season, while only having to make one save in the match.
F&M opens Centennial Conference (CC) play on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when the Diplomats travel to Bryn Mawr.
