LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 18 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (2-0) overcame a one-goal deficit by scoring twice in the final 11 minutes to push past Lebanon Valley (2-1), 3-2, in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference match at Tylus Field. Wednesday's victory marked 20-straight wins over the Dutchmen – stretching back to the 1990 season.
Tied at 2-all in the 88th minute,
Ethan Senatore chipped a pass into the box. In a foot race to the loose ball,
Oscar Horwitz beat the keeper and headed the pass into the net to give the Diplomats the late lead. The score was Horwitz' fourth game-winning goal of his career and second in as many games this season.
F&M struck first in the match as
Isaac Mintz rocketed a distant shot into the top-left corner of the cage to give the Diplomats a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game. Lebanon Valley responded quickly as the Dutchman tied the game in the 17th minute and later took the lead on a goal in the 19th minute.
F&M raised the offensive pressure in the second half in an attempt to find the equalizer. The Diplomats had a great opportunity in the 73rd minute as Horwitz controlled the ball behind the visitor's defense, however the senior's shot rang off the left post and bounced away from danger.
A handball was called on LVC just outside the box in the 79th minute to set up a free kick opportunity.
Koa Kaliebe took the kick and sent his shot into the top-left corner of the cage to tie the game.
F&M outshot LVC 14-10 in the match with
Jordan Samuels leading the game with four.
The Diplomats continue their homestand Saturday at 6:00 p.m. as F&M hosts Elizabethtown for the Battle for the Smith-Herr Boot.
