CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - In its first road contest of the season, the Franklin & Marshall volleyball team swept DeSales, 3-0. The win capped of three straight sweeps for the Diplomats.
The two teams began the first set neck-and-neck, tied at 11-11. However, F&M created separation by winning five of next six points to take a 16-12 lead. After the Bulldogs inched closer, trailing 15-17, the Dips went on a 6-0 run to take a commanding 23-15 advantage.
Liah Perez then clinched the set with a serving ace to put F&M ahead 1-0.
The Diplomats dominated to open the second frame, leading 9-3 early on. The deficit was later cut to three by DeSales, but F&M distanced itself with a 21-12 edge.
Justine Amory closed out the stanza with a kill as the Diplomats grew their lead to 2-0.
Knotted up at 5-5 in the third set, F&M used a 9-1 run to take the lead for good. The Diplomats ended the match by winning eight of the final 10 points, including a kill by
Mya Anderson for the game winner.
Coco Shultz notched nine kills on the night, while
Liah Perez contributed a team-high 22 assists.
F&M will stay on the road to take on No. 11 NYU on Friday, September 8 at 4:30 p.m. in New York City, N.Y.
