Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Survives Double Overtime Against McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. - After erasing a 10-point deficit in the second half, the Franklin & Marshall Men's Basketball team took McDaniel to double overtime and came away with a 75-69 win. The victory helped complete the first season series sweep of the Green Terror since the 2019-20 campaign.

With the Diplomats leading 4-3 in the first two minutes of the game, McDaniel used a 12-2 run to go ahead by nine and would not trail again until the first overtime period. Eventually going up by 12, the Green Terror led by double-digits until there were just over five minutes remaining in the first half, after which F&M exploded for a 9-2 run. Down 31-23 moments later, the Diplomats closed out the final two minutes of the half with seven unanswered points to make it a one-point game at the break.

Opening the second frame with a 6-1 run, the Green Terror built their lead back up to eight inside of the 15-minute mark. With McDaniel later leading 42-37, neither team was able to score for the next three minutes before the Green Terror broke the drought with five consecutive points for their first double-digit lead since the first half. However, F&M stormed back with an 8-2 run over to close the gap to four with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. Following a Lorin Hall free throw to put the McDaniel up 52-47, the Diplomats tied the game with five straight points, capped off by a Vakaris Grauslys three-pointer. The two teams then traded buckets before each side missed a chance at the go-ahead score, sending the game to overtime.

Josh Parra began the first overtime scoring F&M's first six points as the Diplomats went up 60-56 inside of the first two minutes of the period. Down 62-58 two possessions later, the Green Terror tied the game using a 4-0 run with just over a minute left to go. Once again, however, neither team was able to close out the game, forcing a second overtime.

Holding McDaniel scoreless for the first two-and-a-half minutes of second overtime, F&M took a 69-62 advantage with a 7-0 run. David Kearney then responded with an and-one on the other end before Nichols drained a shot from distance to keep the Diplomats up by seven. Knocking down three key free throws down the stretch, F&M escaped with a crucial road win.

Despite being limited to two points after the first half, Grauslys ended the game with a team-high 20 points, including the key, game-tying shot in the second half.  Josh Parra registered his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. In their comeback effort, the Diplomats held the Green Terror to just 8-of-22 shooting from the field in the second half.

Staying on the road for its upcoming matchup, F&M will travel to Ursinus on Wednesday, January 31 at 6 p.m.
