Women's Basketball Clipped by Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (9-10, 4-10 CC) was defeated on the road at Ursinus (12-8, 8-7 CC), 48-34, in Wednesday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) showdown. F&M struggled to get anything going from the field as the team shot just 24.4 percent in the game. Furthermore, Ursinus was dominant on the boards – outrebounding F&M, 41-28, in the contest.

Trailing 12-4 with 1:39 remaining in the first quarter, Lizzie Neville splashed a three-pointer that was followed by a layup from Gia Sioutis to get the Diplomats within three. However, Ursinus matched with a three of their own to take a 15-9 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Ursinus kept its foot on the gas in the second quarter as the Bears extended their lead to 10 through the first nine minutes of the frame. With 23 seconds on the clock, Jaclyn Feit drew a foul while sinking a layup to send her to the line for an and-one opportunity. Feit drained the free throw to narrow the deficit to seven. Despite the big play from Feit, Ursinus added three late points that included a buzzer-beating jumper that sent the home team into the halftime break with a 29-19 advantage.

The Bears continued to grow their lead out of the intermission with Ursinus ahead by 14 at the 5:20 mark of the quarter. From that point, four different Diplomats worked their way to the charity stripe, which resulted in five points to cut UC's lead to 35-26 with 2:32 remaining in the third quarter. Despite cutting the deficit to single-digits, the Bears scored six-unanswered points to lead 41-26 after three quarters. The nine-point difference would be the closest the Diplomats would come to tying the score for the remainder of regulation.

Feit led the Diplomats with eight points and five rebounds, while also blocking one shot. Neville followed with seven points and two three-pointers. Quinn Galligan recorded four steals, while Ally Trebelev collected two in the game.

Franklin & Marshall returns home to play Muhlenberg on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
