Volleyball Vanquishes Bryn Mawr in Straight Sets for 4-0 Centennial Start

LANCASTER, PA.- The Franklin and Marshall women's volleyball team (15-3, 4-0) continued its undefeated start to Centennial Conference play with a straight-set sweep of Bryn Mawr (25-8, 25-16, 25-12) on Saturday afternoon. The win is the program's third-straight overall with five wins in the past four matches. 

Gianna Mangiamele had a team-high 10 kills on 13 swings (.769 hitting %), leading the Diplomats' offense that posted a .388 hitting percentage. Melissa Benkowitz contributed seven kills (.545 hitting %), while Coco Shultz had five kills (.556). Liah Perez assisted 21 kills and posted six digs, while Chloe Wiedman had a team-high seven digs. Emily Dean had a career-high four aces.

The Diplomats quickly got ahead in the first set using an 8-0 run that featured three Dean aces for a 15-3 lead. The teams traded points to the end of the set with F&M winning the set 25-8. Benkowitz had five of the team's nine kills. 

The Diplomats yet again coasted through the early stages of the second set, finding themselves ahead 18-7 with five kills from Mangiamele up to that point. The teams traded points the rest of the way, with the Owls getting within six points at 21-15 but no closer. Two Mangiamele kills ended the set. F&M swung a match-high .455 in the second set.

The Diplomats pushed to a 7-2 lead in set two followed by a pair of Bryn Mawr kills. From there, F&M scored eight straight including three aces from Dean for a 15-4 lead. They held a lead of around ten points to the end of the set three as the match ended on a four-point run that featured a Benkowitz kill, two Mikayla Smith aces, and an attack error for a 15-12 win.

The Diplomats return to competition on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00 pm as they head to Gettysburg, who is also receiving votes in the AVCA Division III Women's Volleyball poll.
