LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (5-3-6, 3-1-3 CC) was denied by Dickinson (8-4-1, 4-3-0 CC), 1-0, in Wednesday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) contest at Tylus Field. The loss snaps a 10-game unbeaten streak for the Diplomats that stretches back to F&M's scoreless draw against York (Pa.) on September 11.
The game-winning goal came from Dickinson's Lauren Ervin in the 69th minute of play as the Red Devils' offensive pressure paid off. A distant shot that was destined for the top-left corner of the cage was batted away by an impressive leaping save from
Lucy Fleming. However, the rebound kicked out to Ervin who buried it in the back of the net for the lone goal of the contest.
F&M had opportunities to score in the 37th minute of play as
Grace Craig sent a corner kick towards the far post.
Alex Wilson sent a looping header towards the top part of the cage, but the ball rang off the crossbar. The ball then bounced to
Kate Boujoukos, who sent a second shot towards the Dickinson net, but her shot was denied by the Red Devils' goalkeeper.
Boujoukos kept the pressure on the Dickinson defense throughout the game, firing a game-high five shots at the visitors' net. The junior also deflected a clearing attempt from the Dickinson goalkeeper that was corralled just before crossing the goal line – denying F&M of a first-half lead.
F&M as team registered 11 shot attempts in the game, but were limited to just two shots on goal.
In net, Fleming finished the contest with six saves for her second-highest total in a game this season.
Franklin & Marshall hits the road for a matchup against No. 8 Johns Hopkins on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
