Women's Soccer Upsets No. 8 Johns Hopkins, 1-0

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (6-3-6, 4-1-3 CC) earned a hard-fought upset-victory over No. 8 Johns Hopkins (9-2-3, 7-1-0 CC), 1-0, in Saturday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) game at Homewood Field. The win marked the first victory over a top-10 opponent since knocking off then-ranked No. 2 JHU in the 2021 CC Tournament Semifinals, 1-0.

Franklin & Marshall jumped out in front during the 38th minute of the match as Colleen Ferrarese dribbled around two defenders and fired a shot under the crossbar for her first goal of the season and the second goal of her career. The score was also the first game-winning goal of the sophomore's career. The goal from Ferrarese was one of the Diplomats' two shots in the first half with the other coming from Julianna Sirico. On the other side of the field, Johns Hopkins recorded seven shot attempts in the first 45 minutes of the contest.

Goalkeeper Lucy Fleming was outstanding in the second half, making all seven of her saves in the final 45 minutes. The sophomore faced three shots on target in the final 10 minutes of play and denied every attempt to complete her third clean sheet of the season.

F&M made the most of its chances as the Diplomats were limited to just three shots in the game. Meanwhile, JHU fired 21 total shots in the contest. In addition to Ferrarese's game-winning goal, Sirico recorded two shots in the win.

Franklin & Marshall looks to build on the momentum when it plays its final non-conference game of the 2024 regular season at Mary Washington on Saturday at noon.
