FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (6-4-6, 4-1-3 CC) dropped its final non-conference game of the 2024 season on the road at Mary Washington (9-4-3), 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles started fast with the first goal of the game coming off a penalty kick in the seventh minute of the match. Mary Washington later scored an insurance goal in the 89th minute to put the Diplomats away.
Franklin & Marshall had its first opportunity at tying the game during the 15th minute of the match as
Dahlia Pepe sent a shot towards an opening in the bottom-right corner of the cage. However, the Eagles' goalkeeper was perfectly positioned to make the save.
The Diplomats' greatest chance at an equalizer came with just over 29 minutes remaining in regulation as
Colleen Ferrarese sent a crossing pass into the box that was headed towards the net by
Kate Boujoukos. Boujoukos' shot was saved, but
Zoe Warne cleaned up the rebound and put her shot in the back of the net. However, the side official had their flag raised – signaling offside and negating the Diplomats' goal.
F&M sent seven total shot attempts with two on target in the game. The Diplomats also earned three corner kicks and limited the Eagles to two in the contest. Pepe led the team with four shots, while Boujoukos,
Grace Craig and
Katherine Finnerty tallied one each.
Franklin & Marshall finishes up its three-game road trip at Gettysburg on Wednesday, starting at 7:00 p.m.
