LANCASTER, Pa.- The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team (17-3, 5-0 CC) secured a swift Senior Day win (25-7, 25-15, 25-15) in three sets hosting non-conference DeSales on Saturday afternoon. The win is the program's fifth-straight dating back to October 5 at Washington College, all of which were in three sets.
Avery Grantham played a big role offensively and defensively, matching a career high with nine blocks (three solo, six block assists) and hitting .385 with eight kills.
Liah Perez averaged eight assists per set with five aces, while
Coco Shultz hit .333 with 12 kills and five aces.Â
The Diplomats hit a match best .370 in set one, started by an early 8-1 run that included two aces from Perez. Up 12-4, the Diplomats scored nine straight including four of Schultz's ace to solidify the set, ending on a Grantham kill at 25-7.
F&M trailed early in set two, finding themselves down 6-9 following several attack errors. From there, the Diplomats collected 13 consecutive points including four blocks where Grantham provided a block assist. The team traded points near the end, with
Chloe Wiedman wrapping up set two on a pair of aces at 25-15.
The Diplomats again struggled to pull away in set three, with the Bulldogs stringing together a 6-1 run that included three aces to tie the set at 10-10. F&M took five of the next six points thanks to kills from Shultz,
Ceci Connolly, and Grantham. DeSales took two points to get within two points, but F&M when on a 6-0 run with three Shultz kills for a 22-14 scoreline. Two more Shultz kills were followed by an
Emily Dean ace to finish the match.Â
The Diplomats return to action in the midweek as they host Ursinus on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.Â
