Women's Soccer Sinks Washington College, 1-0, in Regular Season Finale

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (8-4-6, 6-1-3 CC) used a goal by Colleen Ferrarese in the 60th minute to edge Washington College, 1-0, in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) contest. With the win in their season finale, the Diplomats have secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CC Tournament and will host a first-round game for the second-consecutive year.

The first half ended in a scoreless tie as both teams displayed a strong defensive presence throughout the first 45 minutes of play. The Shorewomen outshot the Diplomats, 6-4, in the first half. However, F&M had a great opportunity in the 31st minute as Kate Boujoukos sent a shot attempt towards the left side of the net, but a Washington College defender was positioned perfectly to make the save.

With under two minutes remaining in the opening half, the Shorewomen created a turnover just outside the F&M box and fired a shot towards the net. Goalkeeper Lucy Fleming made an impressive diving save to keep the game scoreless entering halftime.

Both teams fired off multiple shots to start the second half, but Ferrarese's strike in the 60th minute bounced off the left post and into the net for her second game-winning goal of the season.

The Diplomats looked to add onto the lead in the 81st minute as Dahlia Pepe was awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the box. However, her shot was saved by the diving Shorewomen goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Boujoukos fired a shot destined for the top of the net, but her attempt was batted off the crossbar and away from danger.

Franklin & Marshall outshot Washington College, 11-10, in the contest. Individually, Boujoukos and Pepe led the Diplomats in shots with three each. In net, Fleming made seven saves to pick up her fifth shutout of the year.

With her 66th-career start, Hayden Wilson became the all-time leader for games started in F&M women's soccer history.

Franklin & Marshall now gets set to host Haverford in the first round of the Centennial Conference Tournament on Tuesday. A start time has yet to be determined.
