Women's Soccer Overcome Green Terror to Advance to Centennial Final

WESTMINSTER, Md.- The third-seed Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (9-4-6, 6-1-3) earned a 2-1 win over the second-seed McDaniel Green Terror in the Centennial Conference Tournament Semifinal on Friday afternoon with goals coming from Zoe Warne and Kate Boujoukos.

F&M struck first with the first shot of the match in the 16th minute. The chance started via high pressing that forced an errant McDaniel back-pass that went directly to Kate Boujoukos at the top of the half-circle. Boujoukos dribbled right, drawing defenders with her to create a line for a through ball to Zoe Warne. Warne received the ball 12 yards out and shot the ball low and left to beat the keeper at the far post.

The Diplomats had two more chances with the half including a Dahlia Pepe set-piece shot from 30 yards out directly at the keeper and a Katherine Finnerty set-piece header that went wide. McDaniel generated zero shots in the first half.

McDaniel generated their first shot ten minutes into the second, forcing a save from Luch Fleming on a shot from the right side from six yards away. Over the next five minutes, they forced two more saves on a headed shot at the near post and long-range shot right at Fleming.

F&M doubled their advantage in the 65th minute, as Lillian Williams played a cross in from the right edge of the box. Boujoukos beat her defender to the ball at the near post from six yards out for a tap-in over the keeper.

McDaniel struggled to generate strong chances over the next 15 minutes, with Fleming making a couple of routine saves. McDaniel did get back within a goal in the 85th on a shot from set-piece from midfield. The ball was initially played over the F&M defensive line. Two players went up for an aerial duel at the six-yard line, but neither made contact. Fleming was caught out of position and unable to make a save at the far post.

The Green Terror generated two more shots in the final five minutes with one ball rolling to Fleming from the edge of the box and the other looping over the bar.

Fleming ended the night with five saves.

The Diplomats earn a spot in the Centennial Conference Final for the third-time in four seasons.

F&M will face the winner of tonight's game between first-seed #18 Johns Hopkins and fourth-seed Dickinson on Sunday, November 10.
