Women's Basketball Uses Fast Start to Down Drew, 67-46

MADISON, N.J. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (9-3, 1-1 CC) ended 2024 with a 67-46 victory on the road against Drew (7-3, 3-1 Landmark) in Tuesday afternoon's non-conference matchup. F&M outscored the Rangers, 42-23, in the first half to set the tone and jump ahead on the scoreboard early.

F&M started the contest by scoring the first 10 points of the afternoon, starting with a jumper from Lizzie Neville. Ally Trebelev connected on two three-pointers and Kennedy Wilburn made a layup before Drew ended the run with a pair of free throws. Leading 17-11 with 1:12 remaining in the first quarter, Trebelev made a layup and Neville drained a three-pointer in the closing seconds to give F&M a 22-11 advantage entering the second frame.

After Drew added a point at the free throw line, the Diplomats responded with a jumper from Quinn Galligan and a free throw from Wilburn to grow the lead to 25-12. The run continued as Trebelev splashed a three-pointer to extend the lead to 28-12 at the 6:10 mark. Drew chipped in a pair of free throws, but the Diplomats continued to find success on offense as Wilburn and Trebelev made jumpers on back-to-back possessions. Galligan converted an and-one opportunity to push the F&M lead to 21 with 4:46 remaining in the half. Leading 37-19 with four minutes left until halftime, Neville made a layup and Kayla McCrea connected on a three-pointer to grow the F&M lead to 42-19. Drew added four points to close the half as Franklin & Marshall led 42-23 entering the halftime break.

F&M ended the first 20 minutes of play shooting 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field and 50 percent (6-of-12) from beyond the arc.

Drew slowly chipped away at the F&M lead as the Rangers reduced the deficit to 11 at the 5:37 mark of the third quarter. The Diplomats responded with a jumper from Wilburn, followed by two free throws from McCrea to extend the lead back to 15. A layup from Wilburn and a free throw from Gia Sioutis gave F&M a 49-31 lead with 2:17 remaining in the frame. After Drew made a layup at the 1:28 mark, the Diplomats scored the final three points of the quarter to take a 52-33 lead into the final period.

F&M led 63-39 at the 6:06 mark of the fourth after a layup from Wilburn. The Diplomats reached their largest lead of the day as Lauren Rusas knocked down a free throw to give F&M a 25-point advantage with 5:31 remaining in regulation.

As a team, the Diplomats shot 40 percent (26-of-65) from the field and 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from beyond the arc.

Trebelev and Wilburn tied for the game-high in points with 17 points each in the win. Trebelev led the team in three-pointers with four, while Wilburn led F&M in rebounds with seven.

Franklin & Marshall plays its first game of 2025 on Saturday as it hits the road to face Salisbury at 1:00 p.m.
