Women's Basketball Held Off by Washington College on Senior Day

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (10-15, 5-15 CC) concluded the 2023-24 regular season - falling short in its second-half comeback attempt against Washington College (14-11, 11-9 CC), 58-51, during Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) game at the Mayser Center. Before the game, the F&M women's basketball team honored Hope Schreiber and Jaclyn Feit for their contributions to the program during their Senior Day ceremony.

The teams traded baskets during the first 12 minutes of the game to bring the score to a 9-9 tie. From that point, the Shorewomen rallied for a 14-2 run that gave the visitors a 22-11 advantage in the contest. A jumper from Gia Sioutis with 30 seconds on the clock cut the deficit to nine entering the halftime break.

Both teams came out of the intermission red-hot from the field with Schreiber knocking down a three-pointer on the first shot of the half. After the Shorewomen answered with a layup, Quinn Galligan splashed another three-pointer to get F&M within five. From that point, Washington College outscored the Diplomats, 14-6, across the next six minutes to extend its lead to 38-25. F&M narrowed the gap with a layup from Lizzie Neville and a pair of free throws from Feit to get the home team with nine. After a layup from the Shorewomen, F&M responded with three makes from the free throw line. The visitors added a layup in the closing seconds to enter the fourth quarter with a 42-32 lead.

F&M scored the first five points of the final quarter as Feit went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe, followed by Ally Trebelev knocking down a three-pointer to narrow the deficit to five. After Washington College made a layup, Kayla McCrea and Feit connected from mid-range on consecutive possessions to cut the margin to 46-43. The Shorewomen held a 52-47 lead with 53 seconds remaining in regulation when Neville splashed a three-pointer to make it a two-point contest. Despite the late surge, that was as close as F&M would come to tying the score as Washington College put the game away at the free throw line.

Feit tallied a team-leading 11 points with one block in the contest. McCrea and Neville each scored 10 points, with Neville also recording five assists and four steals. McCrea and Trebelev tied Feit for the team-lead in rebounding – each corralling four boards.

Franklin & Marshall finishes the season with an overall record of 10-15 with five of its wins coming on home court.
