Baseball Loses on the Road at No. 25 York (Pa.)

YORK, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (7-12) fell on the road against No. 25 York (Pa.) (11-4, 4-2 MACC), 12-4, Sunday afternoon in its non-conference matchup. Sunday's game was a make-up date for the postponed contest originally scheduled for March 5.

After two scoreless innings to start the game, the Diplomats jumped on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning. Matt Hollender led off the frame with a single through the left side of the infield. The next batter, Nolan McCloskey laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Hollender up to second on the play. A heads-up play of realizing no player was covering third on the bunt allowed the sophomore to scramble to the open base. The hustle paid off as a groundout brought Hollender home to give F&M a 1-0 lead.

The Spartans quickly responded by scoring 12-straight runs across the next five innings to overtake the lead, 12-1.

The Diplomats finally got back in the scoring column in the top of the eighth as Conner Rush launched his first-career home run over the left field fence to cut the York lead to 12-2. In the top of the ninth, Colin Mackenzie roped a pinch-hit double to lead off the frame. After Patrick Cettina worked a walk, Drew Butera singled through the left side of the infield to score two and make the score, 12-4.

Luca Marshall (1-1) was tagged with the loss on the mound – striking out one in 3.2 innings pitched.

Franklin & Marshall returns home to Caplan Field Tuesday for a mid-week matchup with The College of New Jersey, starting at 3:30 p.m.
