LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team (1-2) picked up its first victory of the spring as the Diplomats downed Drew (1-5), 7-2, in Thursday evening's non-conference match.
F&M earned hard-fought victories in the second and third doubles matches of the day. The pairing of
Lorena Saavedra and
Amelia Squires denied their opponent in the No. 2 doubles contest, 8-3. In the final doubles match, the duo of
Kakie Colclough and
Presley Daggett raced past their opponent, 8-0, for the win.
After Drew claimed a win in the No. 1 singles match, F&M ratted off wins in the next five singles matches to wrap up the day.
Rebecca Bellick (No. 2) shutout her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, while Squires (No. 4) ousted her opponent, 6-2, 6-2. Saavedra won her match in the No. 5 position, 6-1, 6-1, for her third-career singles victory.
Sophia Rhazali defeated her opponent in the No. 3 position, 6-2, 6-2, for her second collegiate singles win. Rounding out F&M,
Kakie Colclough earned her first singles victory of her collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 6 position.
Franklin & Marshall now travels to Orlando, Florida for a doubleheader on Monday against Ithaca at 7:30 a.m. and Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 p.m.
