Men's Lacrosse Edged by Washington College, 11-10

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse team went toe-to-toe with Washington College under the lights of Shadek Stadium on Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference action. The Diplomats trailed just once prior to the fourth quarter, but a 4-1 advantage for the Shoremen over those final 15 minutes was enough to steal an 11-10 win from the hosts.

James Moroney led the attack with a hat trick, while Kai Kelly and Jack Luviano each rattled the back of the cage twice. The two teams finished with an identical 45 shots and 14 saves. Teddy Scarborough stopped 14 of the 25 shots on goal he faced as F&M held a 27-18 edge in shots during the first 30 minutes before the Shoremen took the upper hand during the final 30 minutes.

Moroney and Luviano got the homestanding Diplomats out to the early lead with two goals during the first four-plus minutes of regulation. Moroney went on to score three of the Diplomats' first four goals before Mason Montrella gave the hosts a 5-4 lead. Moroney's hat trick answered the only time prior to the fourth quarter where WAC held a lead.

Franklin & Marshall led by two goals on two different occasions during the third quarter as back-to-back goals from Liam Timmins and Luviano put the Diplomats up 8-6. Ryan Roberts matched that two-goal advantage when he tallied his goal at the 5:36 mark of the third quarter.

The Diplomats carried their 9-7 advantage into the final 15 minutes of play, but the Shoremen scored the first four goals of that final period to an 11-9 lead. Kelly found the back of the cage with 2:27 left in regulation, but the Shoremen ultimately secured the victory thanks in part to a huge save with 27 seconds remaining in the contest.

Men's lacrosse will be back on the road this coming Saturday as it travels to Muhlenberg for a 12 p.m. opening faceoff in Allentown.
