Women's Soccer Clipped by Catholic in Season Opener

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (0-1) fell to Catholic (1-0), 1-0, in the Diplomats' 2024 season opener Friday evening at Tylus Field. Despite outshooting the Cardinals, 13-2, in the contest, the Diplomats couldn't find the back of the net with six of their shots being on goal.

Catholic broke open the scoring in the 13th minute of the game as Ava Gregorio's shot was tucked inside the left post for an early goal. F&M attacked the visitor's net seven minutes later, but Dahlia Pepe's attempt was sent wide for a goal kick. Two minutes later, Kate Boujoukos tried for the equalizer, but her shot missed over the crossbar.

Franklin & Marshall's best chance at tying the game came in the 59th minute as Boujoukos found a streaking Katherine Finnerty in the offensive area. Finnerty rocketed a shot towards the left side of the net, but goalkeeper Ava Rieger deflected the shot towards the corner of the field and away from danger.

Six different Diplomats produced a shot on net in the game with three shots on goal coming in each half.

Franklin & Marshall looks to bounce back when it hits the road to face Elizabethtown on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
