Women's Soccer and York (Pa.) Finish in Scoreless Draw

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (0-2-2) picked up its second tie of the season in Wednesday evening's scoreless draw against York (Pa.) (3-0-1). Despite outshooting the Spartans, 16-9, in the game, the Diplomats couldn't find the back of the net as F&M played its first scoreless draw since its 0-0 tie at McDaniel during the 2023 season.

The first 45 minutes of play were mostly played in the midfield with neither team producing a strong opportunity on offense. However, the action ramped up in the second half as the Diplomats came out of the break firing on offense. In the 60th minute, Lillian Williams corralled the loose ball in the box and sent her shot just over the crossbar. Two minutes later, Katherine Finnerty received a crossing pass just in front of the York goalkeeper. Finnerty attempted to tip the ball past the keeper, but her shot narrowly missed over the crossbar.

F&M's greatest chance of scoring came in the 81st minute as Finnerty headed a shot towards the bottom-right corner of the cage. However, the diving York goalkeeper batted the attempt away and extinguished the Diplomats' chance of a go-ahead goal.

Finnerty led the F&M offense with five total shots and three shots on net. Dahlia Pepe followed with four total shots and two attempts on target.

Lucy Fleming did her part to keep York off the scoreboard as the sophomore keeper made four saves, including two in the final 12 minutes. The shutout is the 10th of Fleming's career – moving her into a tie for seventh in the F&M record book.

Franklin & Marshall now heads to Penn State Harrisburg to take on the Lions on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
